I need to talk to a person about an visa application status. All the phone numbers I find on the internet are either businesses or when I do find a real number for the government I can’t talk to a real person. Can you even talk to USCIS or immigration? This is about a K1 finace visa cancellation. What is the phone number I can call to get information and talk to a real person so I can get my questions answered?

I am currently a green card holder. I married an american citizen and got my green card and now I have it for 2 years and 9 months. Someone told me that I should apply for citizenship. I wanted to know what forms I should fill out and how much will be the fees. Please let me know that would be a huge favor.

Thanks in advance.
Please look at the specific situation I am in that I got my green card by marrying so what I heard is that I am eligible after three years. But what I want to know is that how much would it cost since I paid so much money in the beiginning when I first send N400 about 3 years ago.

I see there are numerous web sites with applications, but they all cost money and I’m curious if there is a U.S. governmental site where I can obtain the necessary forms and prepare everything on my own….

A person is called a US citizen, when he/she is a legal member of the United States. Being a US Citizen , the individual is rewarded with all the rights and privileges that become a part of US Citizenship. The individual may obtain the Social Security and Medicare benefits on retirement. He /she also has the right to vote and choose a government. The US Citizen may obtain a US passport with which he may travel abroad to every country in the world. Also being a US Citizen provides the right to sponsor his/her family to enter US legally and help in obtaining Permanent Resident Card.

An individual may become a US Citizen either at birth or after birth.

If a person is born inside United States he/she is automatically called a US Citizen at birth.

If the person is born outside United States to US Citizen parents, then that person is also said to be as US Citizen at birth. But the individual must claim citizenship through parents.

If the person is born outside US (to non- US Citizen parent(s)) and who has immigrated to United States may obtain US citizenship after birth through a process called Naturalization.

Things to remember when applying for citizenship.

The immigration laws changed over the years, and they require all individuals who apply for citizenship meet all the requirements by the immigration law and submit the required evidence. The applicants must consider the following requirements before filing the US citizenship application.

Eligibility Requirements :

If a person who was born a U.S. citizen outside the United States or who fulfilled the requirements for becoming a U.S. citizen prior to their 18th birthday, may file the US Citizenship application at any time during his or her lifetime to claim citizenship through parents.

A person looking out to become a US citizen by his/her own rights, he/she may go through the naturalization process. To apply for naturalization, the individual must be at least 18 years of age and should have been a permanent resident for at least 5 years and meet all other eligibility requirements. Another way of obtaining naturalization is through marriage. If the individual is married to a US Citizen and living with the same US Citizen for 3 years, then he/she may apply for naturalization.

Continuous Residence :

When applying for citizenship through naturalization it is a must for a person to maintain Continuous Residence. Continuous residence means that the person has not left the United States for a long period of time. If the person leaves the United States for too long, he/she may interrupt the continuous residence.

Supporting Evidence:

The supporting evidence plays a main role in the US Citizenship application process. If the required evidence is not provided, the application process will be delayed or the application might get rejected. It is the duty of the applicant to provide a copy of all the required evidence . The basic supporting documents would be a photocopy of the Permanent Resident Card, birth certificate, a copy of a document on name change (if any), marriage certificate (if applying based on marriage) and two identical, color, passport-style photographs. Later at interview they will be required to submit the originals for reference.

I have been teaching citizenship classes for over 10 years and have helped literally thousands of students from all over the world pass their U.S. citizenship test. A question I am often asked is “Do I have to write or read anything on my citizenship interview?”
The simple answer is yes, you must be able to read and write English in order to pass your citizenship interview.

You will be required to read at least one sentence and write at least one sentence in order to pass your interview. The USCIS interviewer will hand you a paper with a sentence on it and ask you to read it. It will be in the form of a question, for example:

Who was the first president of the United States?

The interviewer will then ask you to return the paper with the reading sentence. They will then give you a blank paper and read you another sentence. This is usually the answer to the question that you just read. The USCIS officer will ask you to write this sentence. Example:

George Washington was the first president.

What if you make a mistake? Don’t worry, you get a total of three sentences or three chances to pass this reading and writing part of the interview.

The USCIS developed a list of vocabulary words for the reading and writing part of the interview. The list of vocabulary words can be found at uscis.gov. The only problem is that they are just lists of words, they have not been put into any order. However, I have taken all the vocabulary words and created all the possible reading and writing sentences. All of the sentences are in my study guide and I read them all on the 2 CDs that accompany the guide so you can practice your reading and writing skills. I guarantee that you will be asked the questions and answers that are found in my study guide. This guide also has all the information you need to pass your interview: new 100 questions, oath of allegiance requirements, N-400 questions and many interview tips. CD 2 even has a full-length practice interview. http://citizenshipcd.com
